The 3 wheeler never worked but the only thing I didn't try was front wheel steering. As the back end was so unstable I went on to something else. Its not without its problems. I used the front bulk heads from a Kyosho RRR and converted them to shaft drive. This gave me problems ensuring the bevel gears were meshing correctly and they wear out pretty quick. I think the best way would be to make custom bulk heads as a box so the gears always mesh properly.&lt;br /&gt;The power to weight ratio is slightly better but I am thinking of using marine engines and a 4 speed gearbox. It didnt have any grip and was difficult to control. The next step was to redo the front end with suspension and try again. This was also uncontrollable so I installed a steering gyro but this could not control the car. The car only has 2 gears and is geared for 100mph. This is to find out if ots stable enough for high speed. The problem is traction and reaction speed when the car goes offline. To compensate I have been testing a steering gyro. Here is a video of it fitted on the RRR. I removed all the front wheel drive system and installed the gyro. I tested the car and it does crab to the right slightly but the gyro always tries to keep it straight. The moring was washed out but we did manage some runs in the afternoon. Here is the vid of the event&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LZ9sHUXD-k"&gt;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LZ9sHUXD-k&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The V2RRR went well but I only managed 82.4 mph and it was only just changing into 2nd. The problem was that the pipe has such a norrow power band that when it changed to 2nd the engine dropped off the power and stalled the engine. I have started mocking up the 3 engine &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;chassis&lt;/span&gt; with 2mm &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;aluminium&lt;/span&gt; plate and will fit the drive when I get it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The drive is adjustable with different weights and also the spring tension can be adjusted. This should allow fine tuning of the system to match the engine power and revs. I have a drawing of the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;CVT&lt;/span&gt; and will post it here if the company will let me&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The V2&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;RRR&lt;/span&gt; is being put together and I have changes the back belts to 3mm to reduce drag. I have uprated the JP engine to a team edition and will run 50% &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;nitro&lt;/span&gt; to add power. The car is now geared for 120mph at 37,000 rpm&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had trouble with the electric car. The tyres were no good as they had zero grip so I have changed them for foams from the USA. I also left the power on and the 2 main &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;LiPO&lt;/span&gt; packs are shot. The company is CVTech-RD in Canada and make CVTs for snow mobiles. It will allow the car to rev from 0-35,000 rpm and from 0-25mph then stay at 35K and accelerate to 150mph maintaining 35K revs (Theoretically!)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I will design the car around the CVT. The brakes are not as important as top speed so I'll go with this design for the 1st prototype.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;This layout has the advantage of being able to easily add extra engines. I have started on the design concepts for the car that I will be using for the event.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The plan is to have a number of transmission design concepts with only a few fixed objectives. These are to use IC engines to go as fast as possible. Apart from that anything goes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The design concepts will use the lessons learned from the design and running of the 3 engines Alien car of 2007. It was apparent that the 3 gearbox design didn't work and a single gearbox is required.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The design concepts are&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1, 2, 3, or 4 engines&lt;br /&gt;single or separate clutches.&lt;br /&gt;2, 3 or 4 speed gearbox&lt;br /&gt;Belt or shaft drive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The plan is to test each concept, optimise the design and then list the pros and cons of each to see what parts when used together will result in the highest top speed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first design to be tested is the 3 speed gearbox. I have designed the 3 speed box to be able to accelerated the car quickly and keep the car on the power band.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The car needs to engage the clutch at 12,000 rpm no more than 30 mph. This will stop the huge clutch slip I had with the Alien car on starting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Next the 1st gear will top out at 32,000 rpm around 60 mph.&lt;br /&gt;2nd gear will engage and the revs cannot drop below 22,000 rpm 24,000 optimum&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2nd will top out at 32,000 rpm at around 90 mph.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3rd will engage and the revs should not drop below 22,000 with 24,000 optimum. 3rd will then top out at 35,000 rpm at 120 mph&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The trial will be with a single .21 engine to see what speed can be attained. and see if there are any flaws in the gearbox design. I don't think 1 engine will pull this gearing so another engine will be added until I can increase the gearing and the top speed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have built a 3 speed gearbox using parts from a Schumacher R12. It has the following gearing&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pinion 36&lt;br /&gt;Spur to layshaft 48&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1st gear 16/60&lt;br /&gt;2nd gear 24/52&lt;br /&gt;3rd gear 40/44&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pulley to back axle 1/1&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have the gearbox installed on a test bed and have attached an electric motor and a rev counter to be able to set the clutch pawls to engage at the correct speeds. This is 6000 rpm and 10,000 rpm.
